"Lazy Parenting"

Anybody else immediately panic when you read that kind of a title and wonder if you're going to read on and discover you're the worst parent ever? No? Just me? Okay.

Those were my thoughts when I saw this article on Facebook the other day.

And I feel so much better about life now. It's hard to not feel self-conscious about your parenting skills when you see those perfect Pinterest moms making their own play-doh every day and doing all these activities and stuff.... my kid is an independent soul. I try to play with him but once he's done, he leaves. And it's EXACTLY like I was as a kid. I just wanted to play on my own. I wasn't opposed to playing with others but when I wanted to do something else, I did.
Andrew plays with his trains and trucks and books and blocks all day long. And while he runs up to me from time to time to show me something or 'talk' or have a cuddle (which I gladly indulge in), he ultimately leaves after a few moments to go do his own thing. It can make me feel like a bad mom but he's a happy, confident little boy. He's growing up to be very strong willed and independent and I kind of love it. So as long as he is happy, we will continue what we are doing :)

Just for giggles ;)

A mother's purse....

...I hope I'm not alone...

Inside: today's mail, epi pen for Andrew, keys, wallet, checkbook, spare sock (wonder what happened there), hand sanitizer, deck of cards (that always goes missing when we want them), play food, endless pile of receipts, tiny sunglasses (no idea where mine are), eyeglass cleaner wipe, kleenex, burts bees chapstick and the puppy's leash.

One of these days I'll go through the diaper bag, haha!

We have a Vlog channel!

So hubby and I decided to *gulp* Vlog. We made a family channel - The Schmittabels - thank my bestie for the name ;)

Take a look, let us know what you'd like to see more of  (or less of). It's new, we're both awkward as hell and have just the tiniest idea of what we're doing so help us out haha!

Our first video is just of a day at home/ getting groceries but I promise they'll get more interesting.

Some days...

Ever have those days when you friggin feel like super mom? Like, it's mid-afternoon... there are no dishes in your sink, dinner is cooking away in the crock pot, the laundry is drying, the house is NOT a disaster area for once, you and your munchkin are dressed - not just in PJs but ACTUAL clothes....

Well, here they are somewhat rare. I LOVE going to bed feeling like a rockstar, enjoying how "easy" the next day is going to be based on everything I got done, etc.

....And then you sleep through your alarm and realize you have 20 minutes to take the dog out, get ready, wake the hubby and make sure he gets ready, get the munchkin ready, get breakfast put together and get out the door so you don't completely miss the pediatrician appointment.

Managed to scrape together apple slices and milk, jumped in the car and let him eat on the road. He later spilled the remainder on the floor of the doctor's office. Yup, we were that total shit show of a family LOL

That was us the other day. We made it to the office just a few minutes late but ended up doing paperwork for another half hour so don't feel TOO terribly bad about that. And the pediatrician was awesome. So not a terrible day.

Though after we left there we went to get an allergy test for Andrew and to pick up Echinacea against the looming colds we're feeling and ended up getting home late and scrambling to keep up with everything before bedtime. After we put Andrew to bed, looked around and didn't want to do ANYTHING, we just grabbed beers and headed to our bedroom for a FRIENDS marathon.

Can't win 'em all ;)

A day in the life...

Well I have been mulling this blog idea around for a while and finally decided why not? It could be fun. So here is a mostly normal Sunday for us. Try not to judge me too heavily on my bed head haha ;)

9:30 am
Waking up with Andrew

This little face greets me! :-D

9:45 am
Breakfast! 7oz formula, big helping of mixed grain oatmeal

10:15 am
Andrew roaming while mama does some yoga/ has her coffee!

10:50 am
Walk along the preserve by our gated community
...supporting our beloved Vikings...who lost :(

11:15 am
Back home playing. Mama has her cold care tea

12:30 pm
Cuddles!

1:00 pm
Lunch! Tomatoes, broccoli and applesauce (with 7oz bottle)

(and mama had leftover tacos)

1:30 pm
Reading time

...and then naptime

2:00 pm
Laundry and cleaning up

2:15 pm
Making beets for the little man. For some silly reason, beets intimidate me. So I wuss out and buy the GMO free canned, unsalted beets.

2:40 pm
Working.... no picture :-S

5:10 pm
Andrew is up! Bottle, beets and banilla yogurt for dinner.

5:24 pm
Start dinner for Hubby! He comes out to say 'Good Morning' about 6 minutes later (he worked the night before and this night too)

5:40 pm
Laundry folding and a few precious moments with Jesse :)

6:15 pm
Daddy off to work, time to play/ try to get a bit more work done.

...which doesn't last long. We have Harry Potter to read and laundry to do!

7:20 pm
Bubble bath time

8:00 pm
Vacuum and clean-up.

8:15 pm
Cutting Andrew's nails and full bottle before bed. Also, sleepy cuddles and another book.

8:45 pm
A not-so-happy little man went down for the night. He screamed and cried for a grand total of 2 minutes before passing out.

9:00 pm
Dishes, sweeping, clean the countertops, sanitize Andrew's eating space and fold laundry.

9:20 pm
Work out. I did attempted 100 sit-ups. I ended up doing 50 sit ups and 50 lower ab exercises. Also did 40 oblique crunches on each side, a 30 second plank, and 5 long squats in second position. This is not usual and I doubt I'll be able to keep it up but I want to try to do as close to 100 sit-ups per day as possible. I also want to work up to doing more yoga at night.

9:55 pm
A rum and coke and settling in for "Betrayal"

... I ended up working on this through most of it.

11:15 pm
Starting work for realsies this time.

3:33 am
Done with typing, time to take a nap before proofing.

7:30 am
Up to finish proofing, then another cat-nap and up for another day! (This is semi-unusual too, I'm not always so sleep deprived lol)

....P.S. My wonderful husband got home right around the time Andrew was getting up and he was awesome and took care of Andrew for me in the morning. I got maybe another half hour of sleep but then Jesse put the little man down for a nap and we all got another three hours of sleep. Yay for hubbys!!! :-)

TTFN! <3
