Our Weekend ♡

We had such a fun, full weekend!

Saturday we went to a USF football game and staff Tailgate which was fun. We didn't do a whole lot as we got there late but we did see some of the game- enough to see USF score two touchdowns and have an awesome play! Afterwards, we dropped Andrew off at Granny's and went home to relax and play video games and have glasses out on the tables and eat junk food and all that other stuff we try not to do when the little one is around haha

Sunday we went to the Straz Center because Jesse had purchased Broadway tour tickets through his work so we were able to see A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. It was soooo good!!!

Then Monday we finally got to the pumpkin Patch. It ended up being pretty warm and munchkin is definitely going into those terrible threes but we still had a lot of fun, picked out a nice big pumpkin and are still snacking on the huge bag of kettle corn we purchased. Yum!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! TTFN ♡

Andrewisms

Munchkin is just about 2.75 years old, and changing SO quickly, it's crazy!

Andrew is such a sweet little man. The other night I asked him if he was ready for bed. He says “Bed?” and runs for his bedroom. Once inside he went straight to his changing pad and laid down for me to change him and get him in PJs. Then afterwards, he puts his wipes and basket of diapers away in the closet, grabs the book he wants to read and climbs into bed. After we are done reading, he turns onto his side and pulls the blanket over his face and we say ‘night night’.

He is so helpful in the grocery store and at home – he loves to help put groceries into the cart and load them onto the conveyor belt when we check out. He is very good at putting all his dishes in the sink once he’s finished eating his meals, sometimes even before we ask him.

We still do 1/3 juice 2/3 water ratio in his juice at lunchtime and we just realized that he thinks juice comes out of the faucet. I put some apple juice in his cup the other day and he ran to the faucet, pointed at it and said “more juice?” He has had straight juice before but we try to avoid it as much as possible.

He loves to help pour his milk- helping to open the fridge, take out the milk, hold the cap, put it back and shut the fridge. He will pick up legos and put them in their bag if we ask him to clean up, and he LOVES to help cook. In the mornings when I make pancakes or muffins or something like that I let him pour in the measured ingredients and help stir and he gets absolutely giddy.

The obsession with trucks and trains is just strengthening as he gets older. We need to take him for a train ride again one of these days methinks. He points out the window and yells “truck” when we pass one in the car, sometimes also yelling the color (“RED TRUCK!”) and then “Where’d it go?” if we pass it or it turns or something.

His vocal skills are getting better and better. There are a few base words that he always uses correctly and well but there are some times where he points at something and says “Sss” or some nonsense and we both walk away frustrated, which sucks, but it’s definitely happening less and less.

Potty training is going nowhere real fast and I’ve learned to accept it. He has once or twice said “potty” and run to his potty chair and used it, but mostly if we try to get him to go he just thrashes and cries so we’re just going to have to let him do it on his own time.

And lastly, as far as picky eating goes, he’s definitely picky. Veggies tend not to go down well whatsoever so I hide them in smoothies, yogurt pops, pancakes….wherever I can. Otherwise, he eats the same meals we do and try to make him at least taste everything but we mainly have a “eat or don’t eat” motto. He gets ample time where we leave his food out if he didn’t eat it with everything else (he always has at least one item he'll eat) but if he refuses to touch it, he doesn’t get anything else. And he never complains or cries when it goes away, nor does he say he’s hungry at all before bed so he’s just fine.

As I’ve said with almost every stage, this age is so much fun! He’s getting so playful, talkative, showing more personality, being way more social, and we’ve just really been loving it. So excited to see him as a big brother <3

Yummy banana bread recipe and Happy Easter Weekend!

Andrew helped me make banana bread last night and it's always SO yummy! I've only tried this recipe twice but so far I'm really loving it.
(P.S. I'm sure you can add nuts of some kind but as Andrew has a bad peanut allergy, we just don't put in any kind)

  • 2-3 ripe bananas
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C), and butter a 4x8-inch loaf pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth. Stir in the melted butter.
  • Mix in the baking soda and salt. Stir in the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract and then mix in the flour.
  • Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour or until toothpick comes out clean.*I also take a stick of butter and coat the top of the loaf right after it comes out of the oven*
  • Remove from oven and cool completely on a rack. Remove the banana bread from the pan. Slice and serve.

Well, I hope y'all have a wonderful Easter weekend! Our plans are to find an Easter Bunny somewhere, get some stuff done around the house, go to church, and have a big yummy lunch at Granny's place!

Hope you get to spend lots of wonderful time with your loved ones and stay safe!

Saint Patricks Day 2015

Hope y'all had a wonderful day spent with your loved ones - safe and full of green stuff ;)

Andrew and I had some quick breakfast before waking Jesse up and heading out. This was our third year attending the Mayor's River O'Green Festival and by far, the most fun we've had.

We got a great spot to watch the river being dyed, shared a delicious orange-mango popsicle, had some food, some drinks, played in the sprinklers, got some fun free loot and I got a nice tan, haha!

little man is 18 months old

"Hey, I’m halfway between one and two! Hallmarks of this age include impatience with, well, just about everything (I want juice…NOW!!). You may also encounter some toddler sleep problems in the form of a reluctance to nap (it might be time to ditch that morning snooze), rebellion at bedtime (consider making it a little later and a tendency to wake up (very!) early in the morning. You may also find your toddler interfering with your phone calls and visitors as he lets you know loudly and clearly that he wants to be the center of attention. Don’t be surprised if, despite his burgeoning independence, he still has separation anxiety (like the dreaded drop-off at day care). Empathize with him (I know it’s hard to say good-bye) and be sure to pack a favorite furry friend in his bag, but don’t feed his misery by getting upset yourself. And speaking of misery, plenty of parents must cope with some serious stroller struggles these days since toddlers hate to be confined (and that goes for high chairs and car seats as well). Distraction may help, but ultimately, your best bet is to stay cool and stand firm. Finally, it’s not too soon to lay the groundwork for good manners by always setting a good example yourself and by explaining why we say please and thank you (hint: it’s as much about kindness as it is about courtesy)."

These days little man is

  • Stepping up one step without holding on to anything
  • Using the handrail (under close supervision) while going up stairs
  • Pointing and making a "Wha"? sound
  • Making "A", "B", "C" and "D" sounds
  • Carrying his puzzles to where he wants them rather than pushing
  • Interacting with kids at Music class
  • Starting to figure out kicking his legs and blowing bubbles in the water
  • Knows how to rub his hands together to wash them or get dirt off of them
  • Kicking the ball
  • Can (and will) remove a disposable diaper from his person before morning if he does not have pajama pants on over them
  • Loves taking bites from mama's burger/sandwich/hot dog, etc
  • Will hold a banana and take bites from it
  • Seemingly trying to memorize books lol
  • "Tickles" you by poking at you
  • LOVES playing hide and seek either with his hands or by covering himself or you with his blankie
  • Can play with legos for hours
  • Now stacks 4 blocks in a tower before knocking it over with glee
  • Will drag you to the kitchen and point at the blender.... AKA "Make me a smoothie now!!!"
  • ALWAYS wants to go outside. He loves playing with his kitchen on the patio or will bring you your shoes and walk over to the gate at the stairs
  • .....also will flat out run to you with a huge smile if you say "Let's put your shoes on!"
  • Occasionally not up for a long afternoon nap. Some days he naps 4-5 hours but rarely he naps for about 30-60 minutes and then babbles and giggles in his crib until we go get him
  • If you splash a bit on his face he will lean down and drink from the water fountain. And never, ever wants to stop.
  • Cars are the most interesting things ever. Screw the playground, let's go walk circles around the cars in the parking lot! Yup.
  • Says "Room, rooooom" while driving his bus on the floor/table/wall/person nearest to him
  • Will actually stop and watch up to about 10 minutes max of Sesame Street, Wally Kazam (sp?) or Spongebob. Or Frozen.
  • Likes to color with his crayons for a short amount of time
  • Starting to understand/ benefit from time outs.... his main crimes include getting up on the couch without an adult, hitting and trying to pull movies down from the shelf
  • And lastly he now loves putting his hand above his head in his carseat for you to hold. You will have a backache afterwards but it's so worth it )

Our weekend

This has been a very full few days!

Friday hubby was sleeping off an overnight shift and it was POURING and storming and there mas massive flooding in our area so munchkin and I had a nice lazy day at home. I had candles burning because the power was going off occasionally. Andrew has always been interested in candles and, well, they live on the half wall behind the couch. I may have mentioned he can now climb ONTO the couch.... and well, you can probably guess the rest. I had grabbed his left arm but before I grabbed the other he reached out and swatted down one of the burning candles. Honestly, I was in such a panic that something would catch fire or Andrew would get hurt that I really just sat and laughed about it all after.

We did try to remove the wax with ice and an iron/cloth but no dice. We're going to try to rent or use a steam cleaner but otherwise, we threw out the one throw pillow that was collateral damage and my mother-in-law suggested making slip covers which sounds pretty good! Thankfully they sent me an awesome sewing machine for Christmas so I'll get to try it out soon :)

Saturday we woke up bright and early to road trip to the East coast. My cousin is getting married on the beach out there so we offered to go take pictures and measurements of the house they are renting-- it's gorgeous! Can't wait for September! We quickly viewed a hotel we may stay at and then headed back. Again I have to say that Andrew is such a little trooper. We were gone for 9 hours and not one angry peep out of him. Amazing little kiddo.

Later that night we left little man with granny and did the grocery shopping for the week.

Sunday we were able to get to church and saw the confirmation ceremony which was a lot of fun! There was a new person running the nursery though and Andrew and another little boy were "egging" each other on (one would cry and then the other would start) so Jesse left part way through to calm him down and bring him in for communion.
Afterwards we had a living room picnic and watched "Frozen". Andrew loves that movie and was bouncing around to the songs haha

After dinner I introduced hubby to "Mary Poppins" and hoping to show him "Saving Mr. Banks" one of these days, too.

Today was so nice, hubby did so much with munchkin and the house. It was wonderful! We also went to the park and little man had a great time sliding and climbing around and ringing the bells, etc. When we were about to leave, though we realized he had hurt his toe, the nail was torn and bleeding a bit so once we got home we took care of that, had a nice big lunch and took naps.

Lastly, here's our dinner menu:

Monday: Salads and leftover Chicken Chili

Tuesday: Hubby's favorite, Breakfast-for-Dinner. Probably pancakes with bacon

Wednesday: BLTs and green beans

Thursday: Tuna Pasta and garlic toast

Friday: Leftovers

Saturday: Steak and garlic potatoes (before heading to the ballet!)

Sunday: Corned beef hash with eggs and hashbrowns (a favorite of mine and my mom's)

Weekend adventures!

Hokay, so long story short, the reasons why I have been MIA lately are: we've had lots of out-of-state visitors, busy schedules, appointments galore and yes even some pretty substantial personal issues going on so far in 2014. BUT we're not going to talk about that, we're going to talk about the weekend  :)

Friday we spent home, went for a long walk and made some yummy peach smoothies -- Andrew's first smoothie! And he LOVED it, Even "asked" for more, haha

Saturday was quite full. We went to a member's only event at the zoo....

They had a special Sea Lion show/ free pictures with Stella and Kitty, and we purchased our own little stuffed Stella ;)

They had VERY fishy breath ;)

Later, we went to Walmart, Whole Foods, Target, Payless and Lenscrafters. We were able to get all the groceries, new sneakers for me and some good boots for Andrew and I got 2 scratch-free pairs of glasses, yay!

My husband went to pick up my car from it's oil change and then we became couch potatoes for the rest of the day.

Sunday we slept in so we missed going to church BUT we did go to Bok Tower gardens! It's their 85th year and it is peak season, so we walked around admiring flowers and lounged in the shade by the tower blowing bubbles and walking the little man all over.

Had to end the evening with Shamrock Shakes, of course ;-P

In other news, I *think* we have our travel plans completed. We're flying to Minnesota for 2 weeks for my brother-in-law's wedding next month and we're so excited! They are Andrew's godparents and it'll also be the first time Andrew is at a big family event so it'll be lots of fun!

Alright, off to clean! I am definitely going through one of my OCD phases again haha
